Due to the enormous potential of food processing for growth and development in the country, Govt. of India has a dedicated Ministry – Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) – for focused attention on this sector.

The Ministry is entrusted with the formulation and implementation of policies for the food processing sector. Apart from policy initiatives, the Ministry also undertakes developmental initiatives by promoting creation of required infrastructure for the food processing sector, supporting value addition activities, R& D activities, as well as skill development for food processing sector. In addition, the Ministry is also involved in promotional initiatives to propagate the potential and prospects of the food processing sector. The major thrust of Ministry’s activities is to provide support to the farmers of the country by facilitating the development of agricultural and allied sectors as well as by bringing about enhancement of farmer incomes.

"Pradhan Mantri KISAN SAMPADA Yojana" (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) is a package of schemes operated by Ministry of Food Processing Industries, providing all-round support for the comprehensive development of the sector.
